Director of Vocations - Rev. Paul J. Makar
The current Director of Vocations for the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia is Father Paul J. Makar. He has been a priest now for 5 years in the Archeparchy, having graduated from St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Seminary and the Catholic University of America (both in Washington, DC) in 2010 with both Licentiate of Philosophy (Ph.L.) and Masters of Divinity (M.Div.) degrees. In addition to being Director of Vocations, he is also Pastor of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cherry Hill, NJ, and serves the Ukrainian Catholic Summer Mission in Wildwood, NJ.
Originally from Perth Amboy, NJ, he grew up in a long-serving family closely tied to the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption in Perth Amboy, having attended the parish school during his formative years under the tutelage of the Missionary Sisters of the Mother of God. His great-grandparents served in the original church on Broad Street, his grandfather served as a parish trustee, his father currently serves as a deacon at Assumption - Perth Amboy, and his mother currently serves as parish secretary there as well. You could say that the Ukrainian Catholic Church runs in his blood!
Prior to his call to enter seminary formation in 2004, Father Paul formerly worked as an engineer for Dome-Tech, and as a group manager at Anheuser-Busch in Newark, NJ. He also served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy, having been stationed on ships in Pearl Harbor, HI, and in Sasebo, Japan. Being a fan of the NY Yankees, NY Rangers, NY Giants, and NY Knicks, he is a gazelle in a den of lions in the Philadelphia/South Jersey metropolitan area - pray for him!

A former lawyer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he is an avid and extremely passionate debater with a vast knowledge of trivia. Father Fields has an extremely wide wealth of pastoral experience (notably at our churches in Warrington, PA, Lansdale, PA, and Frackville, PA). He loves political commentary and discussion about current events and issues that affect us today, and can hold his own with any major news outlet commentator, shock jock, or cultural critic. He is a man with tons of love for God, His Church, and all people.
